    Irish Defeat Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Senior center Katryna Gaither scored a game-high 25 points, including 11 points in a 25-10 Irish run to open the second half, as No. 14 Notre Dame overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Bowling Green 85-70.

With the victory, Notre Dame improves to 4-1, marking the third time in four years the Irish have opened the season with four victories in their first five games. Bowling Green fell to 0-1.

Notre Dame had a balanced attack as Gaither led five Irish players in double figures. Sophomore guard Shelia McMillen came off the bench to score 16 points. Senior guard Beth Morgan and junior guard Mollie Peirick added 12 points apiece, while senior forward Rosanne Bohman scored 11.

The two teams exchanged leads before the Falcons went on a 9-0 run to take a 43-39 halftime advantage. But the Irish, who shot 48 percent from the field in the first half, came out on fire in the second half, blistering the nets for 64 percent shooting from the floor.

The Irish took the lead for good on a jumper in the lane by Gaither with 16:37 remaining in the second half. Garrity, who had 16 second-half points, has scored 20 or more points in all five Irish games this season.

The game concludes a stretch that saw the Irish play five games played in four different states over a nine-day period. Three of the five teams the Irish played during this stretch were ranked in the top 20. Notre Dame continues a stretch of seven consecutive games away from home this Friday when the Irish play Ohio in the first round of the Comfort Inn Downtown in Atlanta, Ga.

Notre Dame's next home game is Dec. 7 against Big East foe Providence.
