SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Sheila McMillen and Danielle Green scored 20 points
apiece as No. 9 Notre Dame beat St. John's 99-60 Saturday night.
The Irish forced St. John's (9-12, 4-6 Big East) into 28 turnovers and held
the Red Storm to 39 percent shooting.
Notre Dame (15-2, 7-2) opened the second half with a 20-4 run and committed
just one turnover over a a nine-minute span. The Irish had 19 steals and 22
assists as six players finished in double figures.
Most of Notre Dame's starters were on the bench when the Irish reeled off a
14-0 run to go up 86-47 with 6:23 left.
Ericka Haney had 16 points off the bench for the Irish, while Ruth Riley and
Sherisha Hills added 12 points each. Niele Ivey finished with 12 points, six
assists and four steals.
Latasha Thompson led St. John's with 15, while Tynisha Miles had 13.
The Irish opened up their first double-digit lead early in the first half
after back-to-back 3 pointers from Ivey and McMillen followed by Riley's jumper
in the lane. Green then hit two free throws, and the Irish were up 16-4 just
over four minutes into the game.
St. John's cut the lead to seven on Myles' jumper halfway through the first
half to make it 27-20. But Ivey hit a 3 to push the lead back to 10, and St.
John's never threatened again.
The Irish led 49-33 at halftime.
