TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Elizabeth Pickney hit a layup at the buzzer, capping her 21-point second half and leading Arizona to a 72-70 victory Saturday night over No. 15 Notre Dame.

Krista Warren tied the score at 70 on a layup with 20 seconds remaining.

Pickney finished with 27 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (3-0). Defending national champion Notre Dame (1-2) lost for the first time to a Pac-10 opponent since the 1991-92 season.

Alicia Ratay scored 19 points for the Irish, who previously lost to No. 20 Colorado State.

Arizona made only 39 percent of its field goals (22-of-65) but sank all 20 of its free-throw attempts with Pickney making 11 of them.

The score was tied at 35 at halftime, and there were 15 lead changes in the game until Pickney hit her game-winning shot.

Freshman Dee-Dee Wheeler added 18 points for Arizona.

Jacqueline Batteast and Le'Tania Severe added 12 points for Notre Dame.
