Notre Dame vs. Wake Forest
November 27, 2010
Coach Muffet McGraw
On this afternoon's play:
"I was pleased with the win. I think offensively we're just doing a lot of good things. I think we're identifying man versus zone, I think we're attacking the zone, and I thought we were really aggressive going to the basket. I thought Natalie Novosel got the foul line because she was really aggressive in attacking. When we got into the bonus we continued to attack, we got them into foul trouble, and I was just really please with our intelligence on offense today."
On the team's defensive play:
"I was disappointed on defense. I really thought [Wake Forest] got in close whenever they wanted to. We really did a poor job defensively on the basket. [Wake Forest] got 34 points in the paint, and I thought that that was not our strength today. We need to do a better job of fronting, we need to do a better job of helping, and we were just a couple of seconds off. [Wake Forest] did a good job on drives, and we just never got there.
On the return of Brittany Mallory:
"It was great to have [Brittany Mallory] back. It was great to have an extra person in the rotation, especially with [Kayla McBride] getting two quick fouls. We really needed to be able to rush people, and we were able to do that today with [Brittany] coming in. She really wanted to play, and she was able to. I'm not sure if she will be able to tomorrow because she is pretty sore today."
On her play this afternoon:
"We've been doing a lot of stuff, trying to work inside, and I think we're getting the ball a lot more. The guards are looking inside, and in a lot more plays I've been able to post up."
On improved rebounding:
"I think overall it's just effort, everybody getting in. Sometimes we'll have trouble and we'll just have one or two people getting in, but now we've been forced to think about it and rebound a lot more, especially when playing really athletic teams like Wake Forest. We have to really emphasize boxing out and going after rebounds, and I think we've been doing that a little bit better."
On her role as the team's leading scorer:
"I think I had the mindset at the beginning of the season to come in and be one of the top scorers. I think I've just tried to stay consistent and that's one of the things that is emphasized. With each game if it's not going well offensively for me just try to focus on defense, but I think Coach will have some words about that. Offensively though, I just keep trying to stay consistent."
On playing in a tournament atmosphere:
"It's definitely going to get us ready for the Big East Tournament so it's definitely good preparation for us."
On her efforts to get to the free throw line:
"I think I missed a couple of shots early so to get into the flow of the game I just tried to drive to the basket, be aggressive, and once I got some free throws it lead to other things, and it was really helpful."
