    Post Game Quotes

Notre Dame Head Coach Muffet McGraw

    Opening Statements...
"Overall, I'm really pleased with the defense today. I thought our pressure on the ball was pretty good. I really thought Fraderica Miller changed the game when she came in. I thought she made a huge difference. Defensively, she really ignited the run that we had in the second half. I thought that offensively, Becca [Bruszewski] did a great job. We did just a great job of getting the ball into the post. I thought we were really balanced tonight. I thought that Skylar [Diggins] had some great drives, but I thought that we were just patient and unselfish. I think that is a very good combination for us. I think we shot the ball very well and did a great job in transition. I was really pleased with the transition offense."

On the run at the end of the first half...
"Yeah, I thought the run at the end of the half was huge. It was a pretty tight game. We would get up a little bit, and then they hit a three. Our three-point defense was a little disappointing at times, but I thought we buckled down for a stretch there. Fraderica [Miller] was probably in at that time. It was huge to get that kind of a lead at halftime. If you go into a game at halftime and its close, they can stay with you for 40 minutes and you don't want anybody thinking that."

On her team's strong shooting performance...
"We did get a lot of layups. I think that our shot selection was very good. We made a lot of extra passes which helped us."

    On her team's good passing...
"Devereaux [Peters] did a great job with the high-low. I thought she found Becca [Bruszewski] quite a few times. We just made some really nice passes, and it made it easier for us to score. I was really thrilled with how we took care of the ball, and how we made good decisions. That is something that we have really been working on."

    On her team's success inside...
"Well they played four guards, so we had a mismatch with one of our posts. Even though Becca [Bruszewski] drew the center, who is a very good player, I thought that she could score on her. We're trying to look inside a little more. I'm excited that the post game is on the rise."

    Creighton Head Coach Jim Flanery

    Opening Statement...
"We made a little bit of a run in the beginning of the second half, but they came right back at us. It was over fairly quickly after that. Notre Dame is a very physical team and they exposed us as a ball-handling unit. It was their pressure and physicality that really bothered us. They also hurt us by throwing the ball inside a lot. I was very impressed with Notre Dame as they played at a very high level today and will continue to get better. They were tough to guard and played very well on the defensive side of the court."

On the Notre Dame run to end the first half...
"They (Notre Dame) went small. We had been playing through our four player when they had the 'double big' lineup in. Once she (Coach McGraw) put in (Fraderica) Miller we were in trouble because we could not simply play through our four player anymore. They did a great job of defending our point guard too. I thought that was a great adjustment for them to go small. Unfortunately, our counter-adjustment did not come until later in the game."

On the effective three point shooting of Creighton early in the game...
"We knew we were going to have to shoot some three's. The key early was our ball movement, but once they went with their smaller lineup our ball movement was not as good because they pressured us more. I thought we were going to have to screen well to score rather than just spread them out and drive to the basket. They defended those screens really well by not switching a whole lot of screens. We just needed to execute our screens a little better as the game progressed. Again Notre Dame deserves a lot of credit for how well they played us defensively."

On the success of Notre Dame's post game...
"I think it was both height advantage and execution. They put a lot of pressure on you in the middle of the floor. They are much bigger and more athletic than us on the inside. The disappointing thing to me was the offensive rebounds that we gave up at the end of the second half. They're quicker across the board and ended up with some loose balls that maybe we should have gotten instead. We just have to be better at getting those defensive rebounds and loose balls."

    Notre Dame Players

Skylar Diggins • Sophomore • Guard
    On the team's defensive effort...
"Obviously there was some intensity off the bench. Kaila Turner, Kayla McBride, and Fraderica Miller getting on the ball. Them coming in and putting great pressure on the ball, it makes it hard to get the ball up the court. It's hard to get the ball up against Fraderica [Miller]. It is even hard for us in practice to get it up against her. When you have players like that, that get up on the ball, it causes a lot of trouble for the other offense."

On the pride she takes in defense...
"I think Coach prides on defense. She really preaches that in the games and in practice. We just take pride in getting stops. We know that we are good in transition, and that is how our offense gets the ball up the court."

    On the team's offensive execution...
"I think tonight we executed. Right from the start Coach said that we were going to establish our post presence early. When you have post players that fight for the ball every time it makes it pretty easy. They are going to fight for position every time, and you just have to make sure that you deliver the pass. When your posts are aggressive and they go to work early, it opens so much more for the guards. We work off of each other."

Becca Bruszewski • Senior • Forward
On her strong game and offensive production...
"All week we really stressed the post game. Finding what works and what doesn't work. Today I just wanted to be physical, get inside, and my teammates did a great job of finding me. Everyone was looking inside, so it made it easy."

On her quick start, scoring eight points before the first media timeout...
"I always like to come out strong and intense. Like I said, my teammates found me screening, rolling, anything like that. They just hit me when I was open. I think our offense really confuses opposing defenses. I just got open, teammates found me, and I hit the shot."

    On having a breakout game...
"I think it was just how we worked in practice; getting a little more comfortable with our offense and getting a few more options put in. We all saw that, and we all took advantage of that. We really did a good job of finding each other today."

On being able to go back to Valparaiso next week...
"It is something special in that I am going to have a lot of family and friends there. I think a lot more people are going to be coming because this is the last time I'll be heading back to Valpo. I'm excited. It is definitely enjoyable because I don't feel any pressure to score 20 or anything like that. With our team it is so balanced, and anything helps. A win is a win."
