NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame freshman guard Madison Cable (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 women's basketball season due to injury, it was announced Tuesday by head coach Muffet McGraw. Cable has not seen action this year after suffering a stress fracture in her left foot during the preseason.

"Our primary concern is Madison's health," McGraw said. "We want to make sure that she is 100 percent before she gets back out on the court. This will allow her to go through the full rehab program, get her completely healed and be ready to go in time for next season. In the meantime, Madison continues to be an excellent teammate, a strong student-athlete, and an important part of our program."

A 2011 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, Cable averaged 12.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game during her prep career while leading the Blue Devils to a 114-14 (.891) record and three consecutive Pennsylvania Class AAAA state titles from 2009-11. She also was a 2011 Parade Magazine All-America selection, in addition to being chosen as the Gatorade Pennsylvania High School Player of the Year and the Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AAAA Player of the Year. What's more, she was the 2011 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Player of the Year, and a two-time Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Player of the Year (2010 and 2011), as well as being a two-time first-team all-state selection.

Cable emerged from Mt. Lebanon as a consensus top-100 player in the national Class of 2011, being ranked as high as No. 52 by ESPN Hoopgurlz.

Winners of 17 consecutive games, No. 2/2 Notre Dame (20-1, 7-0 BIG EAST) returns to the hardwood at noon (ET) Saturday when it travels to Jamaica, N.Y., to take on conference rival St. John's at Carnesecca Arena. The game will be televised as part of the BIG EAST Game of the Week syndicated package, which includes live coverage in the Midwest on Comcast SportsNet Chicago (Channel 37 on most Comcast systems in the South Bend area, DirecTV Channel 665, DISH Network Channel 429).
