LOS ANGELES – From a national championship run with the Irish to the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks - Notre Dame women’s basketball senior forward Kathryn Westbeld has signed to be a part of LA’s training camp roster.
Westbeld now becomes the seventh current Irish player on a WNBA roster, joining Kayla McBride (Las Vegas Aces), Jewell Loyd (Seattle Storm), Natalie Achonwa (Indiana Fever), Skylar Diggins-Smith (Dallas Wings), Devereaux Peters (Washington Mystics) and Lindsay Allen (New York Liberty).
In her senior season, Westbeld played in all but one game, which included 31 starts. The Kettering, Ohio, native averaged 7.7 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. Westbeld shot 59.2 percent from the floor, which ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Westbeld became the 39th member of Notre Dame’s 1,000-career point club on Feb. 22, and finished her career with 1,076 points. All-in-all, the Irish were 82-9 when Westbeld started.
The Sparks and the Connecticut Sun will tip off the preseason at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, May 7, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
