NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Notre Dame men's and women's basketball teams opened their 2008-09 season Tuesday afternoon with their annual Media Day activities at the Joyce Center. Both squads took their official team photos and met with the local media to discuss what promises to be a highly-anticipated '08-09 season on the Joyce Center hardwood.

Men's head coach Mike Brey enters his ninth season at Notre Dame, welcoming back 12 monogram winners, including four starters, from last year's club that posted its second consecutive 24-8 record, tied for second in the rugged BIG EAST Conference and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Meanwhile, women's head coach Muffet McGraw will begin her 22nd year at Notre Dame and has seven monogram winners, including three starters, back in the fold from last year's squad that posted a 25-9 record, placed fourth in the BIG EAST, and made the program's seventh trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 with wins over SMU and Oklahoma before a narrow 10-point loss to eventual national champion Tennessee (after leading the Lady Vols at halftime).

A full offering of print and multimedia coverage from Tuesday's Media Day activities will be posted on this page throughout the coming hours and days. Check back regularly for quotes, video interviews and photo galleries with the Irish players and coaches.
