AS A SOPHOMORE: Earned her second varsity letter with an outstanding second season at Notre Dame ... finished third in the spring (82.75) and third for the year (81.96) behind Smith and Mary Klein in scoring average ... closed the spring by tying for 58th at the Ohio State Invitational with a 54-hole mark of 254 (79-88-87) ... finished second among Irish golfers and 29th overall at the Iowa Invitational with a 246 (86-79-81) total ... struggled with a 181 (91-90) at the Indiana Invitational which gave her a 75th place tie overall ... tied for 26th at the William and Mary Invitational with a 163 (85-78)...turned in the top performance of her career to open the spring by finishing in a tie for third among 114 golfers at the Northern Illinois Snowbird Intercollegiate with a 36-hole total of five-over par 149 (76-73) ... second round’s one-over par 73 was single-best round of McMurtrie’s collegiate career ... served notice in the fall that she was ready to move among the team’s top performers by posting an 81.00 stroke average during four fall tournaments (Irish women’s golfers have posted season stroke averages below 81.00 just four times previously) ... her amazing consistency included posting all 10 rounds with scores ranging from 79 to 82 ... failed to post a score in the mid-70s but counted to the team score in all 10 of her rounds (the only Irish player to do so) ... posted team’s second-best score in each of the first three tournaments ... opened with rounds of 80-81-81 (242) at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate, held at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. ... continued her steady play by turning in rounds of 82-80-82 (244) at the Michigan State Invitational and a 36-hole total of 164 (82-82) at the Michigan Invitational ... closed the fall by tying for sixth in 59-player field at the Butler Invitational with a 160 (81-79), helping the Irish win that 11-team event at Saddlebrook Golf Course ... began the 1999-00 school year by tying for third place at the annual Campus Championship after firing rounds of 82-83 (165) at South Bend’s Blackthorn Golf Club.
AS A FRESHMAN: Showed glimpses of her future potential, posting an 85.00 stroke average, while competing in eight of nine tournaments on the way to her first Notre Dame monogram ... counted to the team score in nine of her 14 rounds as a member of the starting unit (she played five rounds as an individual) ... participated as an individual at the season-opening Michigan State Invitational where she posted rounds of 82-84-85 (251) before becoming a member of the starting six in the final three events ... counted to team total in each round of the Lady Northern Intercollegiate with a 54-hole total of 258 (90-81-87) ... shot a 179 (90-89) at the Michigan Invitational ... closed the fall by posting second-best finish by an Irish golfer at the Notre Dame Invitational (held in Bonita Springs, Fla.), where she tied for 20th in a 76-player field with a 158 total (80-78) ... opened spring by posting team’s second-best score at the Midwest Classic, with rounds of 90-84 (174) at Hyatt Bear Creek Golf Course in Dallas ... carded rounds of 85-82 (167) as an individual at the NIU Snowbird Intercollegiate, held at Tampa’s Pebblecreek Country Club ... did not compete in the Indiana Invitational before closing with a 168 (85-83) at the Iowa Invitational and a 260 (89-85-86) at the Ohio State Invitational ... opened the school year by placing sixth at the 1998 fall Campus Championship with a 36-hole card of 169 (83-86) in action at Blackthorn.
PREP & PERSONAL: Attended Bishop Grandin High School, where she participated in varsity volleyball, basketball and field hockey (Bishop Grandin does not sponsor a varsity golf program) ... won the 1999 Calgary Partner Best-Ball Match Play Tournament, while paired with her mother Elaine McMurtrie ... went on to win the Willow Park Ladies Club Championship, shooting rounds of 80-76-73 on a par-73 course to beat a field that included a top-ranked golfer from Alberta ... placed 10th out of 80 golfers at the 1999 Alberta Ladies Amateur (in Edmonton), with rounds of 83-83-82-79-80 for a 407 total ... finished sixth in field of 75 at Calgary Ladies Amateur, with rounds of 82-84-80 (246) at Elks Golf and Country Club ... placed fourth in the 1998 Alberta Provincial Championship (82-79-82) while posting a top-30 finish at the Canadian National Championship ... also won the ’98 Henderson Lake Provincial Invitational and placed second at the Alberta Masters (82-80) ... tied for third at 1997 Alberta Provincials (81-76-77) while winning Kevin Hipple Memorial ... her other 1997 highlights included being selected for the Junior Americas Cup team that competed against Western teams from the United States ... also was selected for the Ryder Cup match-play team that competed against a team from Montana ... served as field hockey team co-captain and earned team MVP honors as a senior ... also participated in competitive figure skating for 10 years ... received the Governor General’s Award, recognizing the top academic student in her senior class ... a three-year member of the Dean’s List and the Honor Society ... born June 12, 1980, in Calgary, Alberta ... daughter of Ian and Elaine McMurtrie ... full name is Kristin Lyn McMurtrie ... a finance major in the Mendoza College of Business.
