MESA, Ariz. - After a disappointing back nine in Friday's opening round, the Notre Dame women's golf team rebounded with a strong back nine Saturday en route to a second round score of 290 (+2) at the seventh annual Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club (par 72, 6,184 yards). The Fighting Irish, which gained three shots on Kentucky, vaulted into a tie with the Wildcats for fourth place.
Notre Dame, which entered yesterday's back nine tied with tournament leader Arizona State at three-under par, faltered and ultimately shot seven-over, but the Irish rebounded with a strong back nine Saturday. As a team, Notre Dame was three under par on the back nine, including back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 from both junior Emma Albrecht and junior Isabella DiLisio.
Albrecht (76-68-144) fired a team-best, four-under round of 68. She moved into a tie for sixth place with a group of five other golfers, including junior teammate Maddie Rose Hamilton (70-74-144). Both Albrecht and Rose Hamilton enter tomorrow's final round at even par and three shots behind the leader -- Jaclyn Lee of Ohio State (72-69-141).
DiLisio (79-73-152) shot a one-over 73, including a stellar back nine round of 34 that featured four birdies. She enters tomorrow's final round tied for 42nd.
The Sun Devils (287-288-575) and Buckeyes (286-289) are tied atop the standings at one-under par. Oklahoma (291-288-579) is third at three-over.
The final round will begin at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday morning. Live scoring will be available on birdiefire.com.
COACH HOLT QUOTES
Thoughts on today's round....
"It was a better day. Emma (Albrecht) rebounded well from her round yesterday and played really solid. Isabella (DiLisio) and Abby (Heck) battled hard from a rough start and came in with better back nine scores today and Maddie (Rose Hamilton) added another solid round."
What you want to see from your team tomorrow...
"The goal tomorrow is to eliminate big numbers and play solid from start to finish throughout our lineup. Our course management was better today and it needs to be even better yet tomorrow."
