BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (4/8/00) - The Notre Dame women's golf team suffered a rough opening day at the Indiana Invitational, as the Irish stand in last place in the 15-team event after a first-round score of 353 at the par-74, 6,134-yard IU Golf Course.

The tournament was scheduled for two rounds on Saturday but was limited to 18 holes, due to poor weather conditions that pushed the start back to noon. The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Sunday.

Junior Mary Klein led the Irish with a round of 82 while her classmate Shane Smith added an 89, with junior Danielle Villarosa and sophomore Kristin McMurtie each adding 91s. Freshman Terri Taibl (95) and sophomore Lauren Fuchs (97) rounded out the Irish contingent in the play-six, count-four format.

The host team Indiana holds a three-stroke lead on Ohio State (317-314) heading into the final round while IU's Natalie Tucker (75) sits atop the individual standings, one shot better than OSU's Mollie Fankhauser.
