    Cle Elum, Wash. - The Notre Dame women's golf team will head into tomorrow's final round of competition at the 2014 NCAA West Regional in 18th place. The Irish shot a 23-over-par 311 in the second round on Friday (May 9) for a two-day 627 total (+51) and moved up one spot in the standings after beginning the day tied for 19th. Notre Dame's score was five strokes better than its first-round 316 total on Thursday at the Tumble Creek Club (par 72, 6252 yards) at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash.

    Notre Dame, the No. 18 seed in the West regional, began the day tied for 19th with Chattanooga. With afternoon tee times, the Irish will look to move on the final day of competition as they are separated from 15th place by just four strokes. The Irish trail Tennessee (623), New Mexico (624) and Oregon (625).

    Junior Ashley Armstrong (Flossmore, Ill.) and sophomore Talia Campbell (Dallas, Texas) registered Notre Dame's two best scores on the day as each shot a five-over-par 77. Armstrong, who had a four-over-par 76 on Thursday, has the best two-day score with a 153 total. Her 18-hole score included three birdies and seven pars. Armstrong's first birdie of the day came on the par-five eighth hole. She also birdied the par-four 12th and par-five 18th greens on the back nine.

    After shooting an eight-over par 80 on the first day, Campbell came back in the second round to improve her score by three strokes. Following seven pars on the front nine, Campbell had a two pars and a bogey on the first three holes on the back nine before double-bogeying the par-three 13th hole. She responded from the setback by registering back-to-back birdies on the par-five 14th and par-four 15th holes. Campbell owns the second-best two-day total for the Irish with a 157.

    Washington native Jordan Ferreira (University Place, Wash.) shot a seven-over-par 79 for the second straight for a two-day 158 total. Ferreira, who had the second-best score for the Irish on day one, had 11 pars on the day. After five consecutive bogeys on the ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th holes, she pared the final five holes of the round.

    Following a nine-over-par 81 on the first day, junior Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii) finished day two with a six-over-par 78 for a two-round 159 total. Oride led the Irish with four birdies on the day. Her first came on the front nine when she birdied the par-five eighth hole. On the back nine, she had birdies on the par-four 10th and par-five 15th and 18th holes.

    For the second straight day, senior Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif.) finished with a nine-over-par 81 for a two-day 162 total. In the second round, she registered her first two birdies of the tournament. Nhim posted consecutive birdies on the par-five eighth and par-four ninth holes.

    Notre Dame will tee off tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, May 10) on the final day of regional competition.

    For the second straight day, the Pac-12 leads the 24-team field. Top-ranked Southern California and sixth-ranked Arizona State stand atop the standings with a two-day total of 578. USC held a five-stroke advantage over the Sun Devils following day one, but shot a six-over par 294 on Friday. Arizona State posted the day's best round with one-over par 289, matching it same score from the previous day. Washington stands third with a 580 total, followed by Oklahoma (586), Northwestern (598), Michigan State (602), Texas A&M (603) and Iowa State (605).

    The top eight teams from the regional will advance to the national finals that will be played May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
