NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - Making its first-ever appearance at both the tournament and golf course in program history, the University of Notre Dame women's golf team looked to avoid the perils of the uniquely named Purgatory Golf Club during Sunday's IU Fall Kickoff. Competing as individual entrants, four of five Irish players in the field broke into the top 20 at the season-opening tournament hosted by Indiana University.

Freshman Jordan Ferreira made the most of her Notre Dame debut, responding from a morning round of four-over par 76 to better the mark by three strokes in round two, closing with a 73 (+1) to finish in a tie for eighth place (76-73-149, +5). The newcomer led all Irish players in the tournament's final results.

Junior Kelli Oride made the biggest move up the leaderboard of any player in the field during the afternoon 18, shaving eight strokes off her morning round to post a one-under 71 and close one shot behind Ferreira in a tie for 13th place (79-71-150, +6). Oride's second round score was the lowest Notre Dame effort of the tournament, and the first Irish score in red numbers this season.

Senior Kristina Nhim (74-77) and sophomore Talia Campbell (77-74) rounded out the top-20 Notre Dame finishers, carding matching 36-hole totals of seven-over par 151. Freshman Janie Fineis claimed 49th place (78-87-165) in her first career start for the Irish.

Louisville's Laura Restrepo earned tournament medalist honors posting the best round of the tournament, a three-under 69, during the second round to log a final score of five-under par 139 (70-69) and win by one stroke. Teammate Katie Petrino carded matching rounds of 70 (70-70-140, -4) to earn runner-up honors. Louisville (285-285-570) claimed the team championship by 27 strokes over host Indiana (296-301-597).

Notre Dame resumes its fall schedule on Sept. 14-15 at the Mary Fossum Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University, at the Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
