Mia Ayer Joins University of Notre Dame Women's Golf Program

Nov. 11, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Fresh off a fall season that featured a No. 22 national ranking, two tournament wins, four top-five finishes and the lowest fall stroke average in program history (291.36), the University of Notre Dame women's golf team is hardly resting on its laurels.

The Fighting Irish welcomed another standout to their program on Wednesday, when Mia Ayer (Waco, Texas/Midway) signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Notre Dame beginning in the fall of 2016. Ayer made her official commitment to the University during the early signing period that began Wednesday and continues through Nov. 18.

Ayer currently is rated among the top 30 in the nation in the incoming Class of 2016 by all major national services, highlighted by a No. 16 ranking from the National Junior Golf Scoreboard. She also stands 20th in the latest American Junior Golf Association (AJGA)/Polo rankings, 24th in the Golfweek Power 50 rankings, and 27th in the Golfweek/Sagarin junior rankings, marking the third time in four years Notre Dame will add a top-40 golfer to its roster.

"We are so excited to have Mia joining our Notre Dame golf family," Fighting Irish head coach Susan Holt said. "She is the perfect fit, academically and athletically, for our program. By adding her to our other solid recruiting classes in recent seasons, we are building a consistent track record of signing some of the nation's top players year after year.

"Mia has had a lot of success already, but I think her best golf is ahead of her," Holt added. "Coming here will only push her to get better. Surrounding her with the talent we have in place will allow her game to thrive at the college level. Mia has a great work ethic and desire to get better. I especially like how she handles herself on the course during play. She keeps her emotions very level, which is a big plus to playing good golf."

The 2015-16 Fighting Irish return to action Feb. 21-22, 2016, in the Westbrook Spring Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Arizona.
