NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Notre Dame's women's lacrosse team lost on the road to Vanderbilt 11-9 Sunday afternoon at Vanderbilt Lacrosse Stadium. The loss snapped a school-record six-game winning streak for the Irish, who fall to 6-2. Vanderbilt completed a 2-0 weekend after opening the season 0-6. The 6-2 start for Notre Dame matches the best in the program's brief history. The Irish also started 6-2 in 1999 before finishing 9-6, the best season record in school history.

The Irish were led by senior Lael O'Shaughnessy (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore Danielle Shearer (Hampstead, Md.), who each registered three goals. Also for Notre Dame, junior Natalie Loftus (Baltimore, Md.) had a pair of goals and classmate Alissa Moser (North Wales, Pa.) scored once.

Shearer opened the scoring, but Vanderbilt responded with six consecutive goals to take a 6-1 lead. O'Shaughnessy scored before halftime to bring the Irish to within four goals. Trailing 6-2, Notre Dame scored four straight goals to open the second half, but Vanderbilt senior April Tellam scored her third goal of the game to give the Commodores the lead for good.

The Irish return to action next Sunday as they play host to Connecticut at 1:00 p.m. at Moose Krause Stadium. Notre Dame is 2-0 in the inaugural season of BIG EAST women's lacrosse, placing it on top of the standings along with Georgetown.
