EVANSTON, Ill. - A five-goal effort from Hilary Bowen led the way as No. 1 Northwestern topped No. 8/10 Notre Dame, 16-2, in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Lakeside Field. Heather Ferguson (Newtown Square, Pa.) and Jackie Doherty (Ellicott City, Md.) scored for the Fighting Irish.

Northwestern (12-0) scored the game's first 15 goals before Ferguson put a halt to the surge with 17:54 remaining in the second half. That was her 12th goal of the season. Following a Wildcat score, Doherty deposited her sixth goal of the campaign to produce the final outcome.

The loss ended the Notre Dame (9-4) win streak at four games. Erin Goodman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) played 50:44 between the pipes and made four saves, while allowing 15 goals. Amy Winik (Freehold, N.J.) played the remainder of the contest. Morgan Lathrop picked up the win for Northwestern by playing 57:20 and surrendering one goal and making nine saves.

Northwestern held a 28-18 advantage in shots. Danielle Spencer added four goals for the Wildcats.

The Fighting Irish are back in action with a BIG EAST showdown at No. 7/6 Georgetown on Saturday, April 12. The game is slated for a 12:30 p.m. (ET) start and can be seen on CBS College Sports (formerly CSTV).
