Notre Dame Wins Season Opener with 12-4 Victory at UC Davis
DAVIS, Calif. - The Notre Dame women's lacrosse team, beginning its second season as a varsity
sport, won its season opener this afternoon as the Irish defeated UC Davis 12-4.
Mara Grace tallied three times and dished off two assists to lead the Irish over the Aggies
as Notre Dame handed UC Davis its first loss after opening the 1998 campaign with a 3-0 record.
Freshman Courtney Calabrese scored three times in her collegiate debut, while another freshman
Lael O'Shaughnessy added two goals and an assist. Kathryn Perella was the third freshman to contribute
as she added a pair of goals.
Notre Dame led 4-1 at halftime, but then erupted for eight second-half goals en route to the
victory. The Irish dominated the contest, outshooting UC Davis 40-16 as freshman Carrie
Marshall recorded 10 saves in her first-ever collegiate outing.
The Irish return to action on Tuesday, March 10 when they play Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.
