NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Following a three-goal performance in a 17-7 Saturday win over Duquesne, women's lacrosse midfielder Margaret Smith earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced on Monday.
Smith, who routinely fills up the stat sheet in a variety of ways, had a standout game against the Dukes, tallying three goals on four shots and adding three ground balls and five draw controls. While on defense the Westminster, Md., native caused two turnovers while helping the Irish limit Duquesne to seven goals, including just one goal in the second half. She was one of three Irish student-athletes to record a hat trick against the Dukes, joining teammates Lindsay Powell and Betsy Mastropieri.
The honor is the second in a row from the BIG EAST for the Irish as senior attacker Maggie Tamasitis earned offensive player of the week after a seven-point performance in a 17-14 win over Stanford.
The No. 15 Irish (2-0) hit the road for the first time this year on Sunday, when they battle the Buckeyes of Ohio State (5-0) at 1 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
