The Irish played their second game in two days this past Sunday when they took on Elon. After a rough first half, the Irish faced a 7-3 deficit at halftime and looked to regroup for the second half.
In the final 30 minutes, the Irish flipped the switch and started to come back. They opened the second half on a 5-0 run that was started by Jessi Masinko’s goal at the 24:48 mark. Diana Kelly netted the next two goals for the Irish. Sydney Cardozo scored the next two goals to give the Irish their first lead of the afternoon at 8-7.
Elon scored next after a 10-minute scoreless stretch by either team to knot the game at eight with under 10 minutes to go. Notre Dame responded with goals from Molly Cobb and Katherine Enrietto to build a two-goal lead.
The Phoenix scored with three minutes left to cut the deficit to one but after a caused turnover by Cobb, Diana Kelly scored her fourth goal of the afternoon to put the game out of reach.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
Marquette enters Wednesday’s matchup 3-2 on the season and riding a three-game winning streak. The Golden Eagles defeated Stetson at home 22-12 in their last game on Sunday. Grace Gabriel leads the team with 20 goals in just five games this season.
This will be the sixth meeting all-time between the two schools. The Irish hold a 5-0 record against Marquette and are 3-0 at home. The Irish and Golden Eagles have played every year for the past five seasons. Last year, Notre Dame won a 21-9 contest at home with Nikki Ortega leading the way with a career-best seven points (four goals, three assists).
