NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Recent Notre Dame graduates and women's lacrosse standouts Jordy Shoemaker and Megan Sullivan have been named to the North squad for the 2012 Senior North/South game that will take place on June 16 in Downingtown, Pa., the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Monday.
The duo will suit up with 16 other Division I players to battle the 18-women South team as part of the Champions' Cup weekend held at the United Sports Training Center in Downington, Pa. Three games that pit teams from the North and South from Division's I, II and III against each other will precede that evening's IWLCA All-American banquet, where teammates Maggie Tamasitis (second team) and Margaret Smith (third team) will be honored at the Radisson Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
Shoemaker and Sullivan become the 13th and 14th players from Notre Dame to participate in the North/South game, and the first since 2009 when Shannon Burke, Jillian Byers and Erin Goodman competed for the North squad.
Shoemaker started all 18 games for the Irish and was a tri-captain with Sullivan and Tamasitis. A solid on-ball defender, Shoemaker caused 11 turnovers and scooped up 15 ground balls on the year.
"I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to play in the North/South All-Star game," said Shoemaker. "It has truly been an honor to represent Notre Dame these last four years. To have an opportunity to compete for the Irish along side my teammate is just amazing. It will be a great weekend and I'm really looking forward to it!"
Sullivan turned in an impressive senior year, earning both second team all-BIG EAST and IWLCA West/Midwest All-Region honors after scoring 24 goals, collecting 23 ground balls and 27 draw controls and causing 15 turnovers. A tri-captain, Sullivan started all 18 games for the Irish.
"There were so many college seniors that had amazing seasons, that it really is an honor to be considered one of them and selected to play in the Senior North/South All-Star Game," said Sullivan. "It's going to be sad taking the field without my Notre Dame teammates and without the Irish jersey--there's just nothing that compares to that. But I'm really excited to have the opportunity to play again with Jordy and close out our careers with the best seniors from across the country."
