NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
Three Notre Dame women's lacrosse players, Alex Dalton, Cortney Fortunato and Caitlin Gargan, were named to the All-ACC Academic Women's Lacrosse team on Monday.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career. The ACC office staff then factors in athletic accomplishments before determining a 30-member team.
Dalton was a IWLCA all-region pick along with making ILWomen's national all-rookie team after a freshman season where she started all 19 games and finished with 38 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and 22 draw controls while playing a role in one of the country's best defenses.
Fortunato, the national Rookie of the Year by WomensLax.com and an IWLCA All-America selection, led the Irish this past spring with 46 goals, 17 assists and 63 points. She also collected 22 ground balls and had 16 draw controls, while narrowly missing a sixth double-digit major statistical category with her nine caused turnovers.
Gargan finished the year as Notre Dame's second-leading scorer with 46 points, ranking second with 16 assists and third with 30 goals. Six of those points came in the ACC Tournament against Syracuse, earning her a spot on the all-tournament team.
