NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Three members of the Notre Dame women's lacrosse team, as well as the squad itself, recently earned recognition for academic success by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).

The team was one of just 42 teams, including four BIG EAST squads, to earn Academic Squad honors from the IWLCA. To be recognized, a team has to have a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Honored individually were senior Kelly Driscoll and juniors McKenzie Brown and Adele Bruggeman. Driscoll graduated in May with a degree in accountancy from the Mendoza College of Business and a supplementary degree in computer applications. Brown (pre professional studies - science) and Bruggeman (sociology - poverty studies) are seniors on the 2013 squad.

The trio was included in a group of only 173 student-athletes from around the country to receive recognition. They were also included in a group of just 27 to make the NCAA Tournament. All student-athletes had to be nominated by their school and have achieved at least junior status academically to be eligible.

Notre Dame is coming off a 13-5 season where they advanced to both the BIG EAST and NCAA Tournaments in head coach Christine Halfpenny's first year at he helm of the Irish.
