NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Five members of the Notre Dame men's and women's track and field teams have been named All-Americans by the United States Track and Field Coaches Association (USTFCA), based on their performances in the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The USTFCA accords All-America honors to the first eight United States citizens in each event.

Irish All-America honorees for 2000 are:

* Senior Jennifer Engelhardt (Battle Creek, Mich.), who finished in a three-way tie for seventh in the high jump by clearing 5-11 1/4.

* Freshman Tameisha King (Mableton, Ga.), who placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 20-5 1/4 in her first career NCAA meet.

* Senior Tim Kober (Gillette, N.J.), who ran the 10th fastest time in the preliminaries of the 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:48.12.

* Junior Ryan Shay (Central Lake, Mich.), who finished seventh in the 10,000 meters for the second consecutive season, logging a time of 30:54.65.

* Senior Marshaun West (Sikeston, Mo.), who placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 25-2 3/4.

The five outdoor All-Americans are the most by the Irish since 1945, when five Notre Dame athletes earned that honor outdoors --- Joe Kelly in the shot put and discus, Dave Murphy in the 220-yard dash, Bill O'Neil in the high hurdles, Ray Struble in the pole vault and Bill Tully in the mile. The most Notre Dame outdoor All-Americans in one year was in 1944 when the Irish had six.
