Notre Dame sophomore Tameisha King (Mableton, Ga.) posted a runner-up finish in the women's long jump at the USA - Canada International Junior match held in Montreal, Canada, July 18 and 19. King's best jump of 19-7 finished just behind Krysha Bailey of the Canadian Junior National Team, who took first place with a mark of 20-2 1/4.

King qualified for a spot in the competition after finishing second at the U.S. Junior National Championships in Denton, Texas, June 23. The USA - Canada match is the first of three international competitions King will compete in representing the United States.

King recently completed her freshman season with Notre Dame in early June. She was an All-American at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championship and set school records in both the indoor (20-4 1/2) and outdoor (21-1 1/2) long jump this season.

The next competition King has an opportunity to compete in is the North America, Central America and Caribbean Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, August 3-5. She has also earned a spot in the World Junior Championships in Santiago, Chile, October 17-22.
