COACH STONE ON BULA: ?Claire is an aggressive racer. I sometimes think she is using her time in the coxswain seat in order to gain experience for NASCAR - she is willing to bang and bump her way to the lead.?
FALL OF 2000: Team co-captain with fellow coxswain Erin Kiernicki ... coxed the varsity eight to the gold medal at the Head of the Elk Regatta marking the first gold medal in Notre Dame history for the varsity eight boat in a race of that magnitude ... coxed the second varsity eight at the Head of the Grand which placed fifth ... led Irish varsity eight boat to a third-place finish at the Head of the Rock ... placed first in the lightweight eight race at the Chicago Chase to kick off the fall season.
AS A JUNIOR: Coxed the first varsity eight vessel all season ... took sixth in the petite final and 12th overall rowing in the stroke seat for the Irish at the Central Region Championships ... missed the grand final by 1.2 seconds at the Centrals ... placed third in its preliminary heat and did not qualify for the grand finals of the Georgetown Invitational ... placed fourth in the varsity eight final at the Midwest Sprints ... was fifth in the SIRA Championship grand finals.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Served as the coxswain for the second varsity eight boat all season ... finished third at the Thomas White Regatta with a time of 7:07.38 ... placed second against Michigan State and Creighton in a time of 7:33.25 ...was third against Ohio State and Michigan and second against Navy and MIT ... placed third at the Georgetown Invitational and the Midwest Championships.
PREP AND PERSONAL: Competed at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in the summer of 1998 ... played three sports at Edgewood High School ... lettered in soccer and tennis ... was the soccer team captain her senior season ... was a member National Honor Society, Student Government, Drama Club and Student Newspaper ... a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee ... one of two children in her family... sister Christine plays volleyball at Villanova ... both mother Elizabeth and father William graduated from Notre Dame ... also had three uncles go to Notre Dame ... grandfather played football at Wisconsin ... born April 2, 1979, in West Lafayette, Ind. ... enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters, majoring in American studies.
WHY NOTRE DAME?: ?I row at Notre Dame because I have a strong need to compete and it brings me a sense of pride to know all that I have helped the team accomplish in four years. To be part of building a successful tradition for my school gives me a great amount of satisfaction and knowing that the team will be here when I'm gone makes me a part of Notre Dame history forever.?
