After serving as an assistant coach for the Notre Dame rowing program since he was hired in October of 2001, Joe Schlosberg was promoted to associate head coach in July 2008. The 2014-15 campaign will mark his 14th season as a member of head coach Martin Stone's coaching staff.

Schlosberg began his tenure coaching the varsity four crews from 2001-06. He then spent the next three seasons, from 2006-08, serving as the primary coach for the novice program before returning to coaching the varsity four boats at the start of the 2008-09 campaign. After the race against Indiana and Purdue in the spring of 2010-11, Schlosberg took the reins of the second varsity eight crew for the remainder of the year. He returned to directing the varsity four boat during the 2011-12 season.

In addition to his coaching duties, Schlosberg also is responsible for travel coordination.

During Schlosberg's tenure, his Irish crews have won 26 gold medals at conference championship regattas, helping lead Notre Dame to an unprecedented 10 straight BIG EAST Conference titles from 2004-13.

Since joining the Irish, Schlosberg has been a key part of the program's tremendous success at the national level. In 2006 and 2007, Notre Dame earned the program's first two NCAA Championship team bids. The Irish finished ninth in their first-ever appearance in '06 and followed that up with a 12th-place finish in '07.

The Irish returned to NCAA Championship competition in each of the past three seasons, tying a program record with a ninth place finish overall at the 2014 NCAA regatta at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. All three Irish boats qualified for petite final appearances for the first time in team history, with the varsity four finishing in 12th place.

For the team's efforts last season, Schlosberg and fellow Notre Dame assistant Marnie Stahl were recognized as the 2014 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) South Region Staff of the Year.

Notre Dame finished in 13th place against a regatta record 22-boat field in 2013 at Eagle Creek Park. The Notre Dame varsity four was one of two Irish boats to reach petite competition, leading all Notre Dame crews with a ninth place finish.

In 2012, the team's first appearance since the NCAA Championship expanded to a 16-boat field, Notre Dame finished 15th overall, led by the eighth-place showing of Schlosberg's varsity four boat. The NCAA appearance was preluded by the ninth consecutive conference title as the Irish won five BIG EAST Grand Finals to claim a 14-point victory.

Notre Dame reached the pinnacle of the BIG EAST Conference again in 2011, claiming its eighth-straight conference crown behind four boats capturing Grand Final gold, including the second varsity eight which Schlosberg just weeks earlier began overseeing. The Irish held on for a five-point victory over Louisville, while again leading the way with five all-BIG EAST selections.

The `10 campaign saw the Irish again top the podium at the BIG EAST Championships, aided by winning five of the six grand final races, one of which was Schlosberg's varsity four crew. Along with winning BIG EAST gold, the boat was able to knock off two nationally ranked foes in Michigan and Michigan State earlier in the year and earned a second-place ranking in the final Central Region polls, according to the NCAA Division I Rowing Committee.

En route to capturing its fifth straight BIG EAST crown in 2008, Notre Dame became the first school in conference history to sweep all six races that included wins by Schlosberg's novice eight and novice four boats. The win by the novice eight boat was the first-ever for an Irish crew at the BIG EAST Championships.

In `06, the novice eight won the Petite Final at both the San Diego Crew Classic and Central/South Region Championships and finished second at the BIG EAST Championships en route to the Irish league title for the third straight year.

In Notre Dame's first team appearance in the NCAA Championships in `06, the varsity eight finished seventh, the varsity four took 11th and the second varsity eight posted a 12th-place finish.

During his first stint working with the varsity four crews, Schlosberg helped lead those crews to four consecutive gold medals at the BIG EAST Championships as the Irish swept both the varsity and second varsity four races in `05. At the Central/South Region Championships in `04 and `05, Notre Dame's fours did extremely well with the varsity four finishing fifth both years in the Grand Final event.

In `02, Notre Dame experienced its best season at the time as the varsity eight qualified for its first NCAA appearance and achieved its first top-10 ranking in school history. In `04, the varsity eight finished 11th overall in its second appearance.

Schlosberg came to Notre Dame after serving as an assistant rowing coach at Northwestern in 2000-01. With the Wildcats, Schlosberg worked with the men's novice team and assisted with the men's and women's varsity squads, teaching the fundamentals of rowing and designing workout programs. He also was responsible for all of the rowing equipment.

A native of New Jersey, Schlosberg worked with some of the elite collegiate rowing coaches during the summers of `01 and `02 at the Northeast Rowing Center in Maine.

A 2000 graduate of Northwestern with a degree in mechanical engineering, Schlosberg competed for the Wildcats' crew team from 1996-2000. He was captain in 1998-99 as his team won the Midwest Sprints and the Big Ten Sprint Championship in 1998.

Schlosberg was an executive board member of the rowing team from 1998-2000, as well as the team's marketing assistant and equipment manager. In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Northwestern, Schlosberg worked as a project engineer at ITW Buildex in Itasca, Ill. While at ITW Buildex, he led a multimillion-dollar product upgrade focusing on a new dimensional profile for the company. He also has worked as a graphics specialist at Exxon Research and Engineering in Clinton, N.J.

In June of '09 Schlosberg married Heather Constant. He and his wife reside in Granger with their daughter, Emily.
