    Irish Varsity Four Finishes Second In Petite Finals At 2012 NCAA Championships

    WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The University of Notre Dame rowing team finished in 15th place (out of 16 teams) at the 2012 NCAA Championships after earning 20 points Sunday on Mercer Lake. The Irish varsity four led the way with nine points after their eighth-place result.
    

    Overall, Virginia captured the team title after concluding with 87 points. Michigan (82) and California (78) finished in second and third, respectively, while Princeton (77) and Ohio State (67) rounded out the top five.

    The Irish varsity four took to the water first on the final day of competition, competing in the Petite Finals of the event. The Notre Dame crew of coxswain Danni Schneider, Joanna Poinsatte, Kelsey Sekanick, Katie Suyo and Stella Willoughby finished second in the final after crossing in 7:25.35. UCLA (7:23.89) crossed first in the race to claim seventh with the Irish finishing eighth overall.

    Notre Dame kept the momentum going in the next race as the second varsity eight boat of coxswain Christina Dines, Ingrid Woelfel, Rose Doerfler, Anna Kottkamp, Paige Aiello, Kelsey Haddad, Teresa Blumenstein and Teresa Rubinger claimed the Third Final in 6:47.00 for a near two-second victory over Cornell (6:48.90). Overall, the Irish finished 13th among the 16 second varsity eight boats, good for eight team points.

    The Irish concluded their day in the Third Final of varsity eight action. The Notre Dame boat of coxswain Abby Meyers, Courtney Gaberino, Morgan Kelley, Stephanie O'Neill, Olivia Kacsits, Ailish Sheehan, Erin Boxberger and Molly Bruggeman finished fourth in the race (6:40.33) to finish 16th overall. The result earned three points toward the team total.
