Coxswain Abby Meyers helped guide the Notre Dame first varsity eight to a pair of victories last weekend

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Notre Dame women's rowing team's first varsity eight has been named the BIG EAST Boat of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The Irish crew of coxswain Abby Meyers, Joanna Poinsatte, Courtney Gaberino, Joanna Mulvey, Stephanie O'Neill, Erin Boxberger, Ailish Sheehan, Anna Kottkamp and Molly Bruggeman won two of three races last weekend at the Oak Ridge/Cardinal Invitational on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Notre Dame won its first race of the season in a three-team contest with Duke and Kansas, logging a time of 6:40.70 to outpace the Blue Devils (6:44.80) and Jayhawks (7:08.61). The Irish remained competitive with defending NCAA champion Virginia during Saturday's afternoon session, claiming runner-up honors in 6:36.02.
Notre Dame closed the weekend with its second win of the Oak Ridge/Cardinal Invitational, downing Louisville and Miami (Fla.) in a tri-boat tilt. The Irish (6:39.50) edged the Cardinals by more than three and a half seconds (6:43.17) for the race victory.
The Irish return to the water March 30 in a four-team competition with Michigan State, Michigan and Iowa in East Lansing, Mich.
