Back In The NCAAs:
Notre Dame's appearance as a team in the 2007 NCAA
Championships this weekend marks the second straight year the Irish
have earned a team berth. A year ago, Notre Dame, made its
first-ever appearance in the team competiton at the 2006
Championships and earned a ninth-place finish overall after winning
the Petite Final of the varsity eight race. The Irish second varsity
eight and varsity four crews also were finalists in the Petite race
and finished 12th and 11th, respectively.
This marks the fourth appearance by Notre Dame in an NCAA
event as the Irish varsity boats earned at-large appearance in 2004
and 2002.
Nine Years Young:
The 2006-07 season marked the ninth for the Irish rowing
program. Rowing became the 26th varsity sport at Notre Dame with the
start of the 1998-99 season.

Back In The Boats:
Several members of this year's Irish team are competing in
the NCAAs for the second time. Returning members of the varsity
eight boat are coxswain Maria Romano, Amanda Polk, Mary Quinn, Laura
Pearson, Allison Marsh and Megan Boyle. Christine Trezza was a
member of the varsity four, but now rows in the varsity eight boat.
Returning members of the second varsity eight crew are Sara Kate
Hafner, Elli Greybar and Jessica Guzik. Ankica Jedry was a member of
the varsity four crew, but will compete with the second varsity eight
boat. Returning members of the varsity four crew are coxswain Sarah
Keithley and Shannon Cassel.
Final Poll Standings:
For the second consecutive year, Notre Dame's varsity eight
boat finished in the top 10 of the final Collegiate Rowing Coaches
Association (CRCA)/US Rowing Poll as the Irish were sixth. A year
ago, Notre Dame was fifth in the final poll. The Irish began the
season 11th in the preseason rankings and then fell to 16th before
climbing to sixth and then a program-best third in the May 2 ranking.
Five Consecutive Top-10 Wins:
During consecutive races in April, Notre Dame's varsity eight
boat defeated five consecutive top-10 boats, which marked a first in
the program's nine-year history. In head-to-head races at the
Windemere Classic in Redwood Shores, Calif., the Irish beat No. 5
California, No. 7 Stanford and No. 9 UCLA. Two weeks later in a
four-boat race in Princeton, NJ., Notre Dame finished first against
No. 5 Virginia, No. 7 Princeton and George Washington.
