NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame rowers Erin Boxberger, Molly Bruggeman, Abby Meyers, Stephanie O'Neill and Ailish Sheehan were each tabbed as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Central all-region honorees, the CRCA announced Tuesday. Boxberger, Bruggeman and Meyers received first team recognition, while O’Neill and Sheehan each made the second team.
For selection to the all-region team, nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
The five all-region choices tied a single season program record, equaling the 2006 and 2007 teams. The three first team selections were the second-most in team history.
A school record 10 rowers were also named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes. Christina Dines, Rose Doerfler, Courtney Gaberino, Kelsey Haddad, Anna Kottkamp, Meyers, Kelsey Murphy, Joanna Poinsatte, Teresa Rubinger and Danni Schneider each received scholar-athlete citations.
Scholar-athlete recognition is awarded to any student-athlete currently in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility with the team who has rowed in her institution's NCAA eligible boat for a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event and maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for her career.
Notre Dame is scheduled to compete at the NCAA Championship May 31-June 2 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. The Irish are making their sixth all-time appearance at the NCAA races.
