Eight Players Score To Lead Notre Dame To 10-0 Win Over Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. -- Notre Dame's second-ranked women's soccer team scored seven goals by seven different players to build a 7-0 halftime lead on its way to a 10-0 win at Wisconsin, the most goals for the Irish this season and the most since a 10-1 win over Villanova on Nov. 3, 1996. Jen Grubb had four assists and a goal to lead the Irish, who improve to 13-0-1 with the win. Wisconsin falls to 4-8-1.

The Irish controlled play from the outset, blitzing the Badgers with three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Leading 5-0 with five minutes left in the first half, the Irish struck twice more before halftime for the 7-0 lead to put the game out of reach. Grubb tied a Notre Dame record with her four assists in the first half. She added a second half goal to finish with a game-high six points.

Irish goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene recorded her 11th shutout of the season and is quickly approaching Jen Renola's single-season Irish record of 13. She lowered her nation-leading goals against average to 0.29. The Irish defense held the Badgers without a shot until less than three minutes remaining the contest and out shot Wisconsin 26-1 in the contest.

The 10-0 loss for the Badgers is the worst in school history and the most goals ever allowed. Wisconsin's 6-0 win over Notre Dame in 1989, their only win in the series, stands as the worst loss in Irish history. The Irish have now beaten the Badgers eight straight time since the 1989 loss. Notre Dame's win also marks the 30th straight win against a Big Ten team, including three in 1997, dating back to a 3-0 loss to Michigan State on Sept. 22, 1989.

Notre Dame returns to action when it travels to Syracuse on Sun., Oct. 19, for a BIG EAST matchup with the Orangewomen in Syracuse, N.Y.
