Notre Dame Blanks West Virginia, 3-0

MORGANTOWN, W.V -- Notre Dame sophomore Jenny Streiffer contributed in each of Notre Dame's three goals as the Irish recorded their third straight shut out and fifth of the season with a 3-0 BIG EAST Conference win at West Virginia. With the win, Notre Dame remains perfect at 6-0-0, 3-0-0 in BIG EAST games while West Virginia suffered its first loss at 4-1-0, 2-1-0. Up next for the second-ranked Irish is top-ranked North Carolina on Fri., Sept. 19, at Alumni Field at 7:30 p.m.

Against the Mountaineers, Shannon Boxx one-timed a pass from Streiffer from the right side of the box to put Notre Dame up 1-0 at 17:38 in what would turn out to be the only goal the Irish would need. Streiffer then scored an unassisted goal at 54:16 when she dribbled by the extended goalkeeper and chipped a shot into the upper right corner of the net from the left wing for a 2-0 lead. She then spilt the Mountaineer defenders with a pass to Jenny Heft at 84:23 for the game's final goal.

Notre Dame dominated the game, allowing the Mountaineers just one shot in the contest while the Irish bombarded the net with 30 shots. West Virginia came out physical, committing 12 fouls in the contest to just five for Notre Dame. Sophomore goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene recorded her fourth shut out of the season as she made one save in the net.
