Notre Dame Women's Soccer Blanks Indiana, 8-0

Bloomington, Ind. - Notre Dame's second-ranked women's soccer team scored three goals in the first 25 minutes and went on to an 8-0 win at Indiana at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. Freshman Meotis Erikson scored two goals for the second consecutive games and Jen Grubb dished off three assists to lead the Irish, who improve to 10-0-1 with the win. The eight-goal loss is the worst loss in Indiana history as the Hoosiers fall to 7-3-0, their eighth-straight defeat to Notre Dame. The win for the Irish over Indiana also marks the 29th straight for the Irish over a Big Ten school since a 3-0 loss to Michigan State on Sept. 22, 1989.

Jenny Heft put the Irish on the board first at 7:55 when she tapped a cross from Kate Sobrero into the net as the Indiana goalkeeper came off her line but failed to intercept the cross and allowed Heft the open net. Anne Makinen blasted the second goal into the lower left corner of the net from 20 yards out at 14:10 to make it 2-0.

Shannon Boxx put the Irish up 3-0 at 24:06 with another long goal from 25 yards out into the upper part of the net. Meotis Erikson closed out the scoring in the first half when she converted a Jenny Streiffer pass to the 10-yard mark that split the defense at 43:27.

Streiffer opened the scoring in the second half with a header from across to the far post from Makiken at 66:04. Holly Manthie took a pass that Monica Gerardo redirected out of the box and fired into the lower right corner form the left win at 73:37. Erikson volleyed in a feed from Jen Grubb at 81:12 and Monica Gonzalez scored on an assist from Julie Maund at 83:49 to round out the scoring.

Irish goal keeper LaKeysia Beene made one save to record her eighth shutout of the season. Notre Dame's defense held Indiana to just four shots as the Irish out shot the Hoosiers 30-4.

Notre Dame puts its perfect 5-0-0 BIG EAST record on the line when the Irish return to action Sunday, Oct. 5 as Boston College travels to Notre Dame for a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Alumni Field.
