Date, Time Set For Irish-Florida State NCAA Quarterfinal

Nov. 22, 2009

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The NCAA announced Sunday evening that Notre Dame's quarterfinal match at Florida State in the 2009 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship will be played Friday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. (ET) at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla. The winner of Friday's contest will earn a spot in the NCAA Women's College Cup, to be held Dec. 4 & 6 in College Station, Texas.

This will mark the fourth consecutive season that the Irish and Seminoles have played in the NCAA quarterfinals or later. Notre Dame leads the all-time series with FSU, 2-1-0, winning in the 2006 national semifinals in Cary, N.C. (2-1) and the 2008 quarterfinals at old Alumni Field (2-0). The Seminoles won the 2007 national semifinal encounter in College Station, Texas (3-2) and will be playing host to Notre Dame for the first time.

Seeded second in this quadrant of the bracket and ranked fifth nationally, the Irish (20-3-1) are in the midst of an 18-game unbeaten streak (17-0-1) and are making their 13th appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals, all since 1994, and will play in their sixth consecutive NCAA "Elite Eight" contest. Notre Dame advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over IUPUI (5-0), Central Michigan (6-1) and Oregon State (1-0), all at Alumni Stadium.

Meanwhile, FSU (19-4-1) is the top seed in this quadrant and will be making its sixth trip to the NCAA's final-8 (fifth in a row). The Seminoles booked passage to the quarterfinals with home victories over Southeastern Louisiana (4-1), California (3-0) and Texas A&M (2-1, 2OT).

Stay tuned to www.UND.com throughout the week for additional information on Notre Dame's latest berth in the NCAA quarterfinals, as the Irish bid for their fourth consecutive trip to the College Cup, and the 11th in program history.
