Fighting Irish Fan Chat - Dec. 2

Dec. 1, 2010

UND.com is debuting another of its new interactive features for the 2010-11 season, with its weekly Fighting Irish Fan Chats. Each Thursday afternoon, UND.com will sit down for a live chat session with student-athletes, coaches and administrators making news in the world of Fighting Irish athletics. Fans are invited to join in and offer questions or comments for our guests, and if you can't join us live, each chat will be archived so you can return to UND.com at your convenience and read what your favorite Notre Dame athletic personalities have to say on a variety of topics.

The Dec. 2 Fighting Irish Fan Chat will take place at 1:00 p.m. (ET) and feature men's basketball senior captain Carleton Scott, women's soccer head coach Randy Waldrum and a player to be named later.

Scott will open the chat at 1:00 p.m. ET and Waldrum will follow at 1:30 p.m. ET live from 2010 College Cup media day in Cary, N.C.

Notre Dame, which knocked off Indiana State, 81-72, last Tuesday night, is ranked No. 25 in this week's Associated Press poll. The Irish are off to an 8-0 start for the first time during Mike Brey's tenure and only the fifth time in school history. The last 8-0 start was in 1973-74 when Notre Dame opened 12-0. The Irish concluded that season with a 26-3 record and included a victory over top-ranked UCLA, which carried an 88-game winning streak into the contest.

Scott has averaged 11.0 points per game and a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game over Notre Dame's first eight outings. He provided the Irish with a consistent effort each night during Notre Dame's run to the Old Spice Classic title. Scott was the only Irish player to reach double figures in points during every game of the event. He notched double-doubles against both Georgia (11 pts., 11 rebs.) and California (16 pts., 10 rebs.). Scott registered 12 points and seven boards against Wisconsin and joined teammate Tim Abromaitis on the all-tournament team. Scott's point totals against California and Wisconsin were team-best figures. That marked the first time in his career that he's led the Irish in scoring.

Waldrum and No. 7/10 Notre Dame find themselves in familiar territory, as the Irish open their fifth consecutive NCAA Women's College Cup appearance against No. 17/19 Ohio State at 4 p.m. (ET) Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The match will be televised live to a national cable audience on both ESPN2 and ESPNU, as well as on-line at ESPN3.com.

Notre Dame (19-2-2) traveled a seldom-blazed trail to this year's College Cup, going on the road to defeat a higher-ranked and higher-seeded opponent in its last two NCAA Championship matches, first picking off No. 3/4 (and top seed) North Carolina, 4-1 in the third round, and then ousting No. 6 (and third seed) Oklahoma State, 2-0 in last weekend's quarterfinal.
