By Joanne Norell

NOTRE DAME, Ind. Diego Bocanegra, assistant coach for the University of Notre Dame women’s soccer program over the last three seasons, has been named the women’s soccer head coach at the University of Houston. The announcement was made Monday.

"I am excited for Diego to take this next step in his career and wish him the best of luck at Houston,” said Irish head coach Theresa Romagnolo.

Bocanegra joined the Notre Dame staff prior to the 2014 season and has helped lead the Irish to the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title, two ACC Championship berths and three NCAA Championship appearances. Notre Dame was 41-14-8, including a 20-7-3 in ACC play, with Bocanegra on the staff. Over the last three seasons, the Irish have boasted 15 All-ACC selections, and two players were selected in the National Women’s Soccer League College Draft.
