Softball Continues Spring Break At Judi Garman Classic

March 15, 2011

Judi Garman Classic - Tournament Central

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - There will be little time for rest and relaxation this Spring Break for the Notre Dame softball team as the Irish continue their eight-game West Coast trip at the Judi Garman Classic (March 16-19) in Fullerton, Calif.

The upcoming six games at the event hosted by Cal State Fullerton will feature matchups versus four top 25 programs.

Coming off a recent doubleheader sweep at Cal Poly and a 3-2 showing at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic two weeks ago in Orlando, Fla., Notre Dame is receiving votes in the latest NFCA and USA Softball top 25 polls.

One-Hitters ...
 • Quite a formidable challenge awaits Notre Dame at the Judi Garman Classic ... for the second time in program history, the Irish will face four top 25 in a single tournament ... in 1994, the Irish faced No. 21 Illinois-Chicago, No. 2 UCLA, No. 24 Robert Morris and No. 9 Penn State at the USF Tournament in Tampa, Fla.
• The Irish are riding a five-game winning streak into the Judi Garman Classic after posting a record nine straight wins to open the 2011 season.
• Among BIG EAST Conference teams, Notre Dame leads the league with an overall 1.36 ERA ... in 108.0 innings, the Irish have allowed 26 runs - 21 earned - with 109 strikeouts ... freshman pitcher Laura Winter leads Irish hurlers with a 0.39 ERA which has resulted in a 6-0 record from the circle.
Amy Buntin leads all league players with a .474 batting average as Alexa Maldonado ranks fourth with a clip of .417 ... Dani Miller (.400) is ninth ... no other team has three players hitting .400 or better.
