The winner of that game is scheduled to face the winner of top-seeded Kentucky (31-19) and UIC (33-19) on Saturday at Noon on the ESPN family of networks.

Irish Embark On 20th Straight NCAA Championship

Notre Dame reached its 20th straight NCAA Division I Softball Championship, earning a bid to the 2018 NCAA Lexington Regional on Sunday night. A total of two Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams received regional invitations, with Notre Dame joined by national No. 6 seed Florida State in the NCAA Championship draw.

In the history of the NCAA Division I Softball Championship (since 1982), Notre Dame is one of just 23 teams to appear in 20 or more NCAA tournaments.

And Then There Were Eight

With Sunday's NCAA selections officially set, Notre Dame remained among an elite group of peers in the modern history of the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. The Irish are one of just eight Division I teams nationally to hear their name called to an NCAA Regional each May since 1999.

Joining Notre Dame in each of the last 20 NCAA tournament brackets has been Alabama, Arizona, UL-Lafayette, Michigan, Oklahoma, UCLA and Washington. Arizona currently boasts the longest consecutive years appearing in the NCAA Championship bracket nationally, qualifying for the NCAA tournament in each of the last 32 seasons since 1987.

Three Irish Players Named All-ACC

Three Notre Dame players were recognized on May 8 for stellar play throughout the 2018 ACC league season. Junior infielder Melissa Rochford was named to the All-ACC Second Team, while freshman outfielder Abby Sweet and freshman pitcher Alexis Holloway were each named to the All-ACC Second Team and the ACC All-Freshman Team.

The three Notre Dame All-ACC selections pushed the total number of Irish players honored by the conference to 22 since joining the league in 2014. Rochford earned All-ACC Second-Team accolades for the second straight season, while Sweet and Holloway are the first freshmen pair of All-ACC choices for Notre Dame in the same season.

Junior pitcher Cait Brooks and junior outfielder Ali Wester added their names to the conference season awards by picking up ACC All-Tournament Team honors. Brooks batted .500 for the second straight ACC tournament with two home runs and four RBI, while Wester batted .429 with a stolen base and a run scored.

Irish History In The NCAA Championship

Notre Dame qualified for the NCAA Championship for the 23rd time in the last 25 seasons with its at-large bid to the NCAA Lexington Regional. The Irish are 33-44 (.429) all-time in NCAA Regional play, and have reached the final day of the regional bracket 11 different times.

Irish Against The Opposition

Notre Dame has won 26 games all-time against possible opponents at this weekend's NCAA Lexington Regional. The Irish have split their last four games with Michigan over the past two seasons, downing the Wolverines 4-3 in February at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in Tallahassee, Florida. Notre Dame has claimed nine of the last 11 games against UIC dating back to 2000.
