NOTRE DAME, Ind. - - Notre Dame sophomore catcher Jarrah Myers (Carbondale, Kan.) has been named to the 2000 GTE Softball Academic All-America Third Team. She becomes the seventh Irish softball player and first since 1997 to be so honored.
An environmental science major with a 3.71 grade-point average, Myers is a two-year starter for the Irish at the catching position in 2000 and at third base in 1999. She was voted to the 2000 all-BIG EAST first team after receiving conference rookie-of-the-year honors a year ago. Myers was second on the team this past season in home runs (12) and RBI (47), while posting a .326 batting average. A member of the University's academic honors program for student-athletes, she was the team's 2000 recipient of the Knute Rockne Student-Athlete award.
Myers joins six other Notre Dame softball players who have earned GTE Academic All-America honors, including three-time member Katie Marten (1995-97).
The 2000 Notre Dame softball team finished with a 47-14 overall record, its best in program history, and a #24 national ranking. The Irish captured their second consecutive BIG EAST championship and fifth straight regular season title before falling to Central Michigan in the NCAA regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich.
