INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Notre Dame of women's swimming and diving team won two individual events and finished second in the 200 free relay to highlight day two at the 2013 BIG EAST Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium.

Earning individual titles on night two were diver Allison Casareto (1-meter) and swimmer Emma Reaney (200 IM).

"I thought we came back and performed well in the evening session after a tough morning session," said head coach Brian Barnes. "We wanted to use tonight's session as a move up night and we accomplished that as several swimmers moved up in the standings from their prelim results. We are in the hunt."

The 200 free relay also earned all-BIG EAST accolades after taking second in the night's finale.

Notre Dame remains within striking distance of first place Louisville (332 points) as the second place Irish have 302 points through eight events.

Casareto took top honors in the 1-meter dive just one night after earning all-BIG EAST accolades with a third place finish on the 3-meter board. The sophomore scored 311.80 points. Teammate Jenny Chiang earned her seventh all-conference scroll by taking third in the event with 297.60 points.

"Allison was put in a situation where she had to nail her last dive and she did it," said Barnes. "That is pressure and she came through with flying colors."

The Irish diving duo dominated the boards, as both earned a title and two all-BIG EAST scrolls.

Freshmen Lindsey Streepey (7th - 255.70) and Emma Gaboury (8th - 244.10) also placed for the Irish on the 1-meter board.

Reaney defended her 200 IM title by breaking her own meet record by going 1:56.37 in the event to win by over a second over Louisville's Tanja Kylliainen. The Lawrence, Kan., has now won three individual titles in her brief BIG EAST career.

In the consolation finals, three Irish competitors placed. Freshman Genevieve Bradford took second in the heat (10th - 2:03.11), senior Lauren Scott placed third (11th - 2:03.40) and sophomore Melissa Scott claimed eighth (16th - 2:04.70).

To open the night senior Gracie Fredlake took seventh in the 500 free championship finals (4:51.62) to score 12 points for the Irish. In the consolation finals, Bridget Casey (12th - 4:52.78) placed fourth and Jaime Malandra (16th - 4:59.45) took eighth.

The 50 free concluded the individual races for the night with junior Christen McDonough taking eighth in the championship finals (23.43) and Catherine Galletti finishing fourth in the consolation finals (12th - 23.51).

The 200 free relay team closed out the night with a second place showing behind champion Louisville. The Irish team of McDonough, Kim Holden, Galletti and Kelly Ryan finished in 1:31.75.
