MIAMI, Ohio -- The Notre Dame women's swimming and diving team won 12 of 16
events in defeating Miami (OH), Kenyon and Pittsburgh in dual-meet
competition at the Miami Aquatics Center. Notre Dame defeated Miami (OH)
223-77, while beating Kenyon 242-58 and Pittsburgh 198-102. The Irish
improve to 6-0 on the season.
The Irish were led by juniors Carrie Nixon and Kristen Van Saun and
freshman Amy Deger, all double-event winners. Nixon won the 50- and
100-yard freestyle races, taking the 50 free in a season-best time of 23.50
and the 100 with a winning time of 51.48, also a season best. Van Saun
captured the 1650 freestyle in a time of 16:47.94 and the 500 free in a
season-best time of 4:57.70. Deger won the 100 butterfly in a time of 57.23
and the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:28.34.
Other event winners for the Irish was the 400 medley relay team of
sophomore Kelly Hecking, sophomore Allison Lloyd, senior Elizabeth Barger
and Nixon, freshman Lindsay Moorhead in the 200 freestyle, Hecking in the
100 backstroke, senior Alison Newell in the 200 butterfly, senior Shannon
Suddarth in the 200 breaststroke and the 400 free relay team of Moorhead,
sophomore Brooke Davey, Nixon and junior Brenda Reilly.
In diving, sophomore Heather Mattingly was second in both the one- and
three-meter springboard events. Senior Rhiana Saunders was fourth in both
the one- and three-meter events, while senior Gina Ketelhohn was fifth on
the one-meter board and third on the three-meter board.
The Notre Dame women next compete Friday-Sunday, Nov. 19-21, as they travel
to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Minnesota Invitational. Meet times all three
days are 11 a.m. for preliminaries and 6 p.m. for timed finals.
