COLUMBUS, Ohio - Saturday turned into a big day for the University of Notre Dame swimming and diving team, as three school records fell at the Ohio State Invitational.
400 IM: Reaney shattered the school mark of 4:12.02 set by Katie Carroll in 2007 the prelims by swimming 4:08.63. ... the mark was a new meet record and an NCAA B cut ... senior Gracie Fredlake qualified 28th in 4:21.71.
100 Fly: Holden broke the old school record of 53.46 by Kellyn Kuhlke in 2009 in the prelims with a third place swim (53.08) ... the time was an NCAA B cut and broke the old meet record ... the top six swimmers all broke the old meet record ... qualifying for the B finals were Catherine Galletti (15th, 55.40), Courtney Whyte (16th, 55.48), Genevieve Heidkamp (17th, 55.48) and Sarah Dotzel (20th, 55.66) ... Lauren Scott (24th, 55.90) and Melissa Scott (30th, 56.18) qualified for the C finals.
200 Free: Suzanne Bessire finished ninth for the Irish in the prelims in 1:48.99.
100 Breast: Reaney set her fourth school record in two days as she lowered the Irish standard in the 100 breast (59.38) to qualify first ... the old record was set by Samantha Maxwell (59.44) in 2009 ... the time was an NCAA A cut, her second of the weekend ... not far behind was Christen McDonough, who qualified fourth in 1:01.81, and Lauren Stauder, who qualified ninth in 1:03.10 ... Bradford qualified for the C finals with a time of 1:08.67.
100 Back: Holden qualified third in the 100 back with an NCAA B cut time of 53.51 ... Kelly Ryan wasn't far behind as she qualified sixth in an NCAA B cut time of 53.95 ... Galletti qualified for the B finals with a 14th place showing (55.19) as did L. Scott, who took 19th in 55.58 ... White (27th, 56.39) and Dotzel (29th, 56.75) both qualified for the C final.
200 Medley Relay: The Irish opened up Saturday evening with a sixth place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.23 ... the team of Holden, Reaney, Galletti and Ryan was followed closely behind by Dotzel, McDonough, Genevieve Heidkamp and L. Scott, who took seventh in 1:41.77.
400 IM: Reaney took fourth in the 400 IM with an NCAA B cut time of 4:10.23 ... Olympic silver medalist Elizabeth Beisel took first in a remarkable time of 4:00.61.
100 Fly: Holden took fourth in an NCAA B cut time of 52.98 ... four Irish swimmers competed in the B final ... Dotzel took 13 in 55.36 ... Whyte finished 15th in 55.62 ... Galletti placed 16th in 55.63 ... Heidkamp took 20th in 55.94.
200 Free: Bessire finished ninth in 1:48.87 ... Malandra took 28th overall in 1:51.77.
100 Breast: Reaney won the 100 breast in 1:00.04 ... McDonough wasn't far behind in fourth with a time 1:01.36, while Stauder took seventh in 1:02.00 ... all three times were NCAA B cuts.
100 Back: Holden claimed third in 53.07 ... Ryan followed behind in seventh in a time of 54.25 ... Galletti took 13th overall, taking third in the B finals in 55.28 ... L. Scott finished 17th overall in 55.85.
800 Free Relay: The Irish team of Bessire, Ryan, Reaney and Malandra took 13th in 7:23.65.
