Gallo Leads Irish to Victory Over Pittburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. ---- Senior Linda Gallo won three individual events and was a member of Notre Dame's victorious 400 yard freestyle relay team as the Irish women's swimming and diving team overwhelmed Pittsburgh 201-99 for its second dual meet victory of the season.

Gallo won all three distance freestyle events -- the 1000 yard (10:04.98), the 200 yard (1:53.04) and the 500 yard (4:57.79).

Freshman Carrie Nixon and sophomore Shannon Suddarth were both double winners for Notre Dame. Nixon placed first in the 50 yard freestyle (23.89) and 100 yard freestyle (52.58), while Suddarth won both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events with times of 1:06.50 and 2:21.24, respectively.

The Irish, now 2-0 on the season, won 12 of the 16 events. Notre Dame returns to action next weekend at the University of Minnesota.
