Notre Dame Women's Swimming Places Second at Rainbow Invitational

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Notre Dame's women's swimming and diving team placed second at the 23rd annual Rainbow Invitational at the University of Hawaii. The Irish tallied 168.5 points while Michigan won the meet with 332.50. Illinois and Wisconsin, which had been Notre Dame at the Minnesota Invitational in November, finished third and fourth.

Senior Linda Gallo and sophomore Gina Ketelhohn were double winners for the Irish. Ketelhohn swept both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions while Gallo won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.33 and 500 freestyle in 4:50.44, bettering her school record of 4:50.91 that she set at the 1997 BIG EAST championships. Freshman Kristen Van Saun was third in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.75.

Freshman Carrie Nixon took second in both the 100 freestyle in 52.18 and 50 freestyle in 24.32. Gallo was fourth in the 50 freestyle in 24.54.

The Irish continue their training trip in Hawaii with a dual meet against Hawaii on Friday, January 9.
