Notre Dame Swimmers Break Two School Records

Irish fare well at Shamrock Classic

NOTRE DAME, IN. -- The Notre Dame swim team had two members break school records as well as two others record NCAA 'B' qualifying times.

Freshman Carrie Nixon broke her second school record in as many days with a 51.07 in the 100 Freestyle. Her time bests the record time of 51.60 set by Courtney South last year at the BIG EAST championships, and is also a consideration time for the NCAA Championships.

Nixon's teammate Elizabeth Barger, who yesterday broke the school and pool record in the 100 freestyle, swam a 2:01.91 in the 200 butterfly to record a NCAA 'B' qualifying time.

Freshman Brian Skorney broke Chris Fugate's record time of 52.01 in the 100 backstroke with a 51.36.

The Shamrock Classic is a non-scored meet in which individuals try to qualify for the NCAA's as well as achieve their best times for the year.

The NCAA women's championship this year will be held in Minneapolis, Minn. March 19-21,1998, while the men's championship will be in Auburn, Ala. March 26-28,1998.
