March 12, 2000

Notre Dame, Ind. - Notre Dame sophomore Heather Mattingly had a little help from her friends as she qualified for the 2000 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships to be held Thursday-Saturday, March 16-18 in Indianapolis. Mattingly joins seniors Elizabeth Barger, Alison Newell, Shannon Suddarth, junior Carrie Nixon and sophomore Kelly Hecking as the Irish contingent participating at the national meet.

Mattingly placed fourth in the three-meter board and fifth on the one-meter board this weekend at the 2000 NCAA Zone Diving Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. With six athletes advancing to the national meet, Mattingly qualified after Indiana's Sara Reiling placed first in the one- and three-meter competitions and second on the platform at the Zone meet opening a spot for Mattingly in Indianapolis next weekend.
