    NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Coming off a 22nd place finish at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships and All-America swims from freshman Emma Reaney and sophomore Kelly Ryan, Notre Dame head coach Brian Barnes has announced four signees for the 2012-13 year. Additional signees could be announced as the summer months grow closer.

    Signing letters of intent were swimmers Catherine Galletti, Sydney Golic and Anna Grainger and diver Lindsey Streepey.

    Catherine (Cat) Galletti

    On pace to graduate from Trinity Preparatory School in the spring of 2012 ... specializes in the free, fly and back ... named a three-time Academic All-American ... national qualifier as a senior ... holds three school records (50 and 100 free, 100 back) ... won 50 free at state meet as a senior ... six-time All-American (100 fly and 50 free twice, 100 free, 100 back) ... member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society and Cum Laude Society ... born August 9, 1994 in Atlanta, Ga., to Mike and Julie Galletti ... has an older brother, Chris ... mother, Julie, played softball at the University of Michigan ... intending on studying pre-med.   

    "Cat Galletti fell in love with Notre Dame immediately," said Barnes. "Notre Dame was her first recruiting visit and she gave us a huge hint that she wanted to come to Notre Dame about 24 hours into that visit. She is an outstanding student, comes from a great prep school and her coach Rocco Aceto has done an awesome job working with her. We are excited to bring Cat to Notre Dame as she shows tremendous versatility and an exciting future."

    Sydney Golic

    On pace to graduate from Northwest Catholic High School in the spring of 2012 ... didn't swim in high school, but has swam with the West Hartford Aquatics Team since she was seven ... specializes in the 100 and 200 back, 100 and 200 breast and the 200 and 400 IM ... has routinely qualified for a spot on the CT Zones team, an all-star team that competes in region meets ... participated in multiple Junior Nationals in both short and long courses ... was a finalist in the 100 breast and 200 back ... a part of a select group of swimmers from Connecticut that got to swim at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado ... is an active volunteer with FoodShare and participates in the National Honor Society ... born on December 21, 1994 in Orlando, Fla., to Mike and Christine Golic ... has two older brothers, Mike Jr. and Jake ... dad, Mike, and uncles, Bob and Greg, all played football at Notre Dame ... brother, Mike Jr., just finished up his eligibility for the Irish, and brother, Jake, is a rising senior ... intending on studying business.


     

     

    "Sydney Golic is another versatile swimmer that we are very excited about," said Barnes. "From the moment we first met her she had made a positive impression on the team and the coaching staff. She is very enthusiastic and has a terrific combination of a positive attitude and a great work ethic; these are qualities that will help her achieve great things at the University of Notre Dame." The coaching staff believes that she has a tremendous upside and we look forward to working with her." 

    Anna Grainger

    On pace to graduate from Ensworth High School in the spring of 2012 ... specialized in the back, fly and IM events ... national qualifier in the 100 and 200 back ... junior national qualifier in the 100 and 200 back, 200 fly and 400 IM ... NISCA High School All-American in the 100 back as a junior ... first team all-region as a sophomore and junior ... scholastic All-American as a junior ... been a tutor with Project S.E.E. since the third grade ... born on May 21, 1994 in Nashville, Tenn., to Bill and Kathy Grainger ... has an older sister, Elizabeth, who is a swimmer at Tufts University ... undecided on college major.

    "Anna Grainger is another exciting addition to Women's Swimming and Diving's Class of 2016," said Barnes. "I became very enthusiastic about Anna after watching her swim at the Jr. Nationals last summer. She comes from a very good club program, Nashville Aquatic Club, and her club coach John Morse recommended that we recruit her. The coaching staff at Notre Dame looks forward to working with Anna." 

    Lindsey Streepey

    On pace to graduate from Highland Park High School in the spring of 2012 ... lettered all four years in diving ... all-state three times ... sectional and regional champion three times ... All-American twice ... finished third on the 3-meter, fifth on the platform and seventh on the 1-meter at the 2011 USA Diving Age Group National Championships ... has been nationally-ranked for five years ... helped team to 10th consecutive state championship, a new standard for any sport in Texas, in 2010 ... out of the pool is involved with Girl Scouts, orchestra, National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society ... also volunteers with the Special Olympics ... born on September 21, 1994 in Austin, Texas, to Mike and Jean Steepey ... has an older sister, Katie ... mother, Jean, dove at Southern Methodist University in Dallas ... intending on majoring in business.   

    "Lindsey started diving when she was eight years old and has dived with the Mustangs In The Sun Diving Team since then," said head diving coach Caiming Xie. "In the last two years she has been a finalist for her age group at the USA Diving Nationals. She competes in both the springboard and platform and with hard work can be a great competitor at both the BIG EAST and national level."

    The Irish are coming off a strong week at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships. Notre Dame finished second at the meet, with Irish student-athletes winning five individual events and two relays. In addition to the runner-up finish, Irish student-athletes won five individual events and two relays. A month later, Reaney was named Honorable Mention All-American in the 200 IM, 100 and 200 breast, while Ryan was tabbed All-American in the 200 back.

    Several members of the team are currently in preparations for the Olympic Trials, which will be held in Omaha, Neb., from June 25-July 2. Among the team members that have already qualified are Amy Prestinario (100m fly), Christen McDonough (100m breast), Hannah Bowen (50m free), Reaney (100m breast), Lauren Stauder (100m/200m breast), Ryan (100m free, 100m/200m back), Kim Holden (100m/200m back) and Bridget Casey (200m fly).
