NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The three-time defending BIG EAST champion Notre Dame women's swimming and diving team has announced its 1999-2000 schedule and roster for the upcoming season.
Led by head coach Bailey Weathers, now in his fifth-year at the helm, the Irish kick off the first of seven home meets with the Notre Dame Relays, Friday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The team then hits the road for a tri-meet with Metro State and Colorado State on October 20, while the divers will continue on a day later at the Colorado State Invitational, October 22-23.
The Irish will play host to its first home dual meet, November 6, when Texas Christian University comes to town. Notre Dame then will travel to Oxford, Ohio, for a dual meet with Miami (OH) and BIG EAST foes Pittsburgh prior to competing at the three-day Minnesota Invitational, Nov. 19-21.
Following the U.S. Open and the Notre Dame Invitational, which are both slated for December 2-4, the Irish head to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands for part of their winter break. The trip to St. Croix will be followed by a home tri-meet against Northwestern and Rice ( Jan. 21) and two separate home dual-meets against swimming powers Illinois (Jan. 22) and Michigan (Jan. 29).
After a more than two-week break, the Irish will look claim their fourth-straight conference title at the BIG EAST championships in Long Island, N.Y., February 17-19.
After the BIG EAST championships, Notre Dame plays host to its final home meet of the year, the Shamrock Classic, February 26-27, followed by the NCAA Zone C diving meet (March 10-11) and the NCAA championships (March 16-18), which will be held in Indianapolis, Ind.
The 1999-2000 Notre Dame men's swimming and diving squad, led by senior captains Elizabeth Barger and Alison Newell, returns 18 of its 22 monogram-winners from last year's squad, which went 7-3 overall.
