Irish Women's Tennis Goes 3-1 on First Day of Gator Fall Classic

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Three members of the Notre Dame women's tennis team competed during the first round of the Gator Fall Classic, going 3-1 for the day.

Senior Kelcy Tefft, the No. 43 singles player in the country, defeated Kentucky's Carolina Escamilla 6-0, 6-3 to win the Irish's first match. Freshman Kristy Frilling defeated Christina Johnson, of Kentucky, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Kristen Rafeal fell to Kentucky's No. 83 Sarah Woestmann 6-4, 6-4 to close out singles play.

Tefft and Frilling defeated UCF's Christy Core and Jenny Frisell 8-1 in the Irish's only doubles action.

Round two will be played Saturday.
