NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Sophomore Kristy Frilling saw her run at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship come to an end Friday with a second-round loss to Georgia Tech's Irina Falconi.
The eighth-ranked Falconi topped No. 20 Frilling, 6-4, 6-1, in the second round of the main singles draw.
Frilling joined junior Kali Krisik for their first doubles consolation match. The 15th-ranked Irish duo bested Virginia's No. 20 Emily Fraser and Jennifer Stevens, 8-4. Frilling and Krisik will take on the second-ranked and top-seed Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova, of California, Saturday in their second consolation match.
Two other Irish doubles teams competed Friday at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern.
In their first-round matchup, Ciobanu and Rielley topped Michigan State's Amy Barton and Elena Ivanova, 8-5. The Irish tandem advanced to the semifinals with an 8-3 win over Oklahoma's Tara Eckel and Maria Kalashnikova in the second round. Ciobanu and Rielley ended their day with an 8-3 setback to Murray and Lui.
McGaffigan and Rafael dropped their first-round match to Wisconsin's Katya Mirnova and Aleksandra Markovic, 8-6, and fell to Minnesota's Tijana Koprivica and Jackie Sperling, 8-4, in their first consolation match. The Irish duo wrapped up doubles competition with an 8-2 loss to Northwestern's Elena Chernyakova and Linda Abu Mushrefova.
Singles matches get underway at the Wildcat Fall Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT).
